How we calculate Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction

What is considered when you make a claim for Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction.

How we calculate benefit and reduction

The amount of Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction you receive depends on:

  • your savings, investments and property
  • your income
  • your rent
  • other adults that live with you (known as non-dependant deductions)
  • your personal circumstances - this includes, your age, whether you have partner, how many children you have

Check the benefits and financial support you can get on GOV.UK

If you rent from a private landlord, any housing benefit awarded will be based on the relevant Local Housing Allowance rate.
