About the cemetery
Bowness Cemetery opened in 1888 with its first burial on the 9th of September. It is a large site extending to around 5 acres and is split into the old and new sections by the central wall.
The cemetery contains consecrated and unconsecrated sections as well as sections dedicated to Roman Catholic and cremated remain burials.
Facilities
The chapel building within the site is still serving as a funeral chapel through Fishwicks Funeral Services.
The two-cemetery lodge within the grounds was split into two properties which are now private residences.
Our contractor has a small welfare room within the site but this is not manned or operated as an office.

Layout
Due to the size of the site, if visitors are looking for a specific grave, we recommend contacting bereavement services who will provide assistance in locating the grave on your behalf.
We advise you do this as soon as possible as we regret, we cannot always answer queries immediately.
