About the cemetery
Ulverston Cemetery opened in 1878 with its first burial on the 7th of May. It is a large site extending to over 10 acres.
The cemetery contains consecrated and unconsecrated sections as well as sections dedicated to Roman Catholic burials, there is also a large area for the burial of cremated remains and a garden of remembrance.
Facilities
Three chapel buildings within the site were built, one still serving as a funeral chapel, the second a is now used as a store for the council's contractor and the third utilised by the council's playground engineer.
The cemetery lodge within the grounds is now a private residence. A small office used by the council’s contractor is attached to the cemetery lodge along with a basic public toilet.

Parking facilities
Parking is available close to the main entrance of the site off Priory Road, just outside the cemetery’s top entrance off Oakwood Drive and also within the site.
Vehicles are permitted within the cemetery where required, please park and drive with consideration to others. We ask for your cooperation in minimising vehicles within the cemetery to preserve its peace and tranquillity.

Due to the size of the site, if visitors are looking for a specific grave, we recommend contacting bereavement services who will provide assistance in locating the grave on your behalf.
We advise you do this as soon as possible as we regret, we cannot always answer queries immediately.
