Westmorland and Furness Favicon

Westmorland and Furness Council have wished local World Cup hero, Georgia Stanway, all the best ahead of the final this weekend.

Bayern Munich and England star Georgia was born and bred in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria and has played a crucial role in England’s journey to the World Cup Final, playing six times and scoring one goal along the way.

Cllr Jonathan Brook, Leader of the Council, said: “Georgia’s achievements already at this world cup have been incredible and she has done her hometown of Barrow proud – whatever the result on Sunday.

“The Lionesses have been an inspiration to us all and particularly for our young people, especially young girls, and I’m sure their success will have a lasting impact on participation in football and sport generally.

“Everyone at Westmorland and Furness Council wishes Georgia and the rest of Lionesses all the best this weekend. Let’s go! You can do it!”
