Kendal community are invited to celebrate investment in historic library building

Everyone in the Kendal community is invited to a free family fun day to celebrate the investment in and transformation of Kendal Library.

The event is to be held in Kendal Library, Stricklandgate on Saturday 16 September 2023 between 11am and 2pm. Everyone is invited to come along; there will be free activities and refreshments available for the whole family.

Activities on the day will include storytelling, tombola, exhibitions, treasure hunts, and much more. Adult Learning will also be running a number of workshops and tasters throughout the day, including arts and crafts, family learning and ESOL.

RagTag Arts will be hosting an engaging recycling craft activity inspired by both reading and the sporty summer reading challenge theme. No need to book, just turn up and enjoy the fun!

Westmorland and Furness Council Cabinet Member for Sustainable Communities and Localities, Cllr Virginia Taylor will be marking the event with an official ribbon cutting.

The newly redesigned building provides library services alongside Local Studies, and Adult Learning. The works have modified the layout of Kendal library, with new seating areas and new signage to improve browsing experience. As well as enhancing the layout the project also included modernisation of Adult Learning facilities, new pram park, improved local studies area and more.

Cllr Virginia Taylor, Westmorland and Furness Council Cabinet Member for Sustainable Communities and Localities, said;

Our historic library building has undergone a remarkable transformation, now offering enriched library services, Local Studies, and Adult Learning. This celebration is for all ages—come with your family to see the fantastic changes and enjoy free activities and refreshments.”

"The redesigned library provides a centre for lifelong learning in Kendal. The changes place a spotlight on Adult Learning, creating a modernised setting that promotes individual development.
