Nominations for the 2024 King’s Award for Voluntary Service are now open!

KAVS award: nominations open

Nominations are now open for the prestigious King’s Awards for Voluntary Service (KAVS).

Every day, people across Cumbria are making a difference by volunteering and outstanding examples of their work are celebrated through the King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Receiving one of these awards is equivalent to an MBE and is awarded for life.

The awards celebrate:

  • Groups that are truly outstanding and making a big difference to their local community.
  • Groups where volunteers, rather than paid staff, are in the driving seat.
  • Groups that have the highest standards in everything they do.

Nominations of voluntary groups that deserve recognition can be made by visiting the KAVS website.

The deadline to submit a nomination is 15 September 2023, with winners announced on His Majesty’s The King’s Birthday next year (14 November 2024).

Eligible nominees are assessed initially by local lieutenancies and then by the national assessors.

The KAVS crystal and certificate will be presented by the Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria.

Mrs Claire Hensman, Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria said:

"The Kings Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK for outstanding work undertaken in their local communities.

"I would like to encourage the nomination of groups who are led by volunteers who give up their time for others and who are making a huge difference."
