Members and officers at Westmorland and Furness Council have expressed their sadness at the news of the death of the former council leader.
Cllr Hilary Carrick, Leader of the Conservative group on Westmorland and Furness Council, led the tributes.
She said: “I was deeply saddened to hear the news of Eddie Martin’s death.
“Eddie was an amazing orator, a prolific letter writer and an inspirational Leader of Cumbria County Council. He was always impatient to bring about improvements that would benefit the residents of Cumbria and he will be fondly remembered by everyone who worked with him.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”
