Tree removal works in Kendal next week

Milnthrpe Road Kendal - Location Plan

Temporary traffic lights will be in place next Tuesday night to allow for the urgent removal of two roadside trees in Kendal.

The two Beech trees on Milnthorpe Road, opposite the junction of Wattsfield Road, have been found to be in an advanced state of decline due to a virulent root decay fungus.

Due to their position there is a significant risk to members of the public if the trees were to fall, so the highways team at Westmorland and Furness Council will be removing them.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place at the location on Tuesday (15 August) from 6pm until 4am on Wednesday.

The lights will be manually controlled at all times in order to ease traffic congestion as much as possible.

A council spokesperson said: “We appreciate this is not ideal timing at this location, with temporary lights for Cadent gas works already being in place near Kendal College, but due to the safety risk to the public these tree works must be carried out now.

“We’d like to thank people for their patience and understanding and our apologies for any inconvenience caused, but we hope people will appreciate these are essential works to ensure public safety.’’
