An EMERGENCY ROAD CLOSURE of the A5284 Stricklandgate, Kendal will be in place from 7.30pm tonight to ensure a demolition of an unsafe building can be conducted safely and efficiently.

Westmorland and Furness Building Control have today (13 February) served a dangerous structure notice on properties 133 to 139 Stricklandgate following a period of close monitoring.

The building has unfortunately deteriorated to the point where it is considered to be an immediate safety risk and causing danger to the public and therefore requires demolition.

Our Highways and Building Control team are working together to make sure the operation is delivered safely and as efficiently as possible, enforcing an emergency road closure on the A5284 Stricklandgate, Kendal between 7.30pm (13 February) and 3am (14 February).

In order to get the abnormal load vehicle that will be used in the demolition to the location safely, there will also be a temporary and very short suspension to the one way system on Stricklandgate, Highgate and Kirkland for up to 15 minutes.

The vehicle will access the site via Kirkland and Highgate, and then travel the one way system through Stricklandgate and the pedestrianised area of town under traffic management and with the support of Cumbria Police. Following completion of the works, the vehicle will follow the reverse journey.

Teams will be working through the night to minimise as much disruption to road users as possible, with the safety of our communities being our top priority.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused due to this emergency closure and will keep this article updated if the plan changes.
