Get involved in the Great Big Green Week 2024

The Great Big Green Week

Westmorland and Furness Council is supporting this year’s Great Big Green Week which will take place between Saturday 8 June and Sunday 16 June.

The Council along with many other organisations, communities and individuals across the country will be coming together for Great Big Green Week, a national climate action campaign.

The week is an opportunity to celebrate what actions are being taken to tackle climate change and protect nature, explore what more we can do, and encourage others to get involved.

This year’s theme is ‘Let’s swap together for good’ which encourages people across the UK to make swaps every day to help create a better tomorrow.

As part of the week, the Council alongside Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS) has administered grants of up to £300 to support not-for-profit groups from across Westmorland and Furness to arrange and host events on the theme, from repair cafes to plant swaps and clothes swaps.

There is still time to get involved and we invite you to plan or attend an event or activity during the week to highlight your contribution towards tackling climate change. Zero Carbon Cumbria has compiled a list of all the events taking place during the week. Find one happening near you by visiting: https://zerocarboncumbria.co.uk/action/gbgw/.

Assistant Director for Climate and the Natural Environment, Claire Gould, said:

“This campaign is a great opportunity for us all to consider the effect our actions have on climate change and the part we can play in tackling it. By swapping together, we can look to buy less and share more – sharing knowledge, skills and ideas, and helping to spread awareness to the wider community.

“There are lots of events and activities planned right across Westmorland and Furness, so I’d urge everyone to get involved and encourage others to join you. Together there is so much we can do to make a difference and reduce our impact on the planet.”
