Public asked to share views on Day Opportunities for adults

As part of a review of Day Opportunities for adults, Westmorland and Furness Council is asking people to share their thoughts on the current services available and ideas to improve the opportunities on offer.

Day Opportunities are services that can provide a break and support for all carers, including unpaid carers, ensuring they can continue to offer ongoing care.

These services help people’s health and wellbeing and provide the opportunity to take part in various interests and activities, meeting with friends, develop relationships, participate in work, education and recreation.

They are also important in supporting people with disabilities, people experiencing mental health problems and older people to maintain and develop new skills, prevent social isolation and support inclusion in the community.  Typically, these services currently run on weekdays, usually between the hours of 9am and 5pm.

An online questionnaire is available to complete until Monday 30 September.

The council is asking for feedback about what works well, travel to day services and suggestions for new activities.

The questionnaire is part of a larger project gathering the views of service users, day opportunity providers, councillors and other organisations within this sector.

Councillor Patricia Bell, Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Care at Westmorland and Furness Council, said: “Day Opportunities are so important in enabling people to live fulfilling lives in the way they choose and be truly part of their communities.

“We want to improve the service so it provides more choice for people who need care and support, so that they can take part in a range of community activities they have an interest in – not just in the daytime, but in the evenings and weekends too.

“I encourage people with experience of Day Opportunities to complete the online survey and share their thoughts on how they can be improved, so we can build upon the best of what we offer and ensure a great experience for service-users and their families.”
