More than 300 business leaders and delegates have signed up to attend a Cumbria Economic Summit - and organisers are urging others to sign up soon.

The full-day event, organised by Enterprising Cumbria with support from Cumberland Council and Westmorland & Furness Council, will be held on Tuesday 3 December at the Keswick Pencil Museum.

The summit discussions will link in with the emerging Cumbria Economic Strategy.
Discussions will focus on the themes of the strategy:

  • An inclusive and productive economy.
  • National security and resilience.
  • A new model of public services.
  • Natural capital and sustainable tourism.
  • Housing, regeneration and infrastructure.

Enterprising Cumbria is keen that strategic partners and stakeholders get the opportunity to input into the final strategy.

Speakers at the event will include the Chair of Cumbria’s new Economic Growth Board, David Beeby, and representatives from Cumberland Council and Westmorland & Furness Council.

David Beeby, said: “Join us for Enterprising Cumbria's first major event, a countywide economic summit. These are exciting, and challenging, times for Cumbria with very significant investment coming to our area and opportunities to take strides forward on our economic performance, to the benefit of all communities, businesses and residents.

“A new economic strategy is being prepared which will form the platform for economic priorities and actions. This event will provide a platform for our business community to ensure their needs are front and centre of the strategy and our future activities.”

The Leader of Cumberland Council, Cllr Mark Fryer, added: “It’s important that our strategic partners and stakeholders get the opportunity to input into the final Cumbria Economic Strategy. Their opinions matter and we need their knowledge and expertise to drive forward inclusive growth in our region.

“We urge businesses to be part of the conversation and to sign-up to the event. Register soon, as places are limited.”

Cllr Jonathan Brook, the Leader of Westmorland and Furness Council, added:

“The summit provides a platform for our business community to ensure their needs are front and centre of a new economic strategy.

“There is a great opportunity, through the unprecedented investment coming to our area, to benefit people and communities across the county.

“We are at the forefront of some of the most high-tech sectors, such as nuclear, decarbonisation, clean growth and innovation, and we very much look forward to hearing what businesses and other stakeholders believe is important in enabling us to capitalise on this.”

The full day event will be held between 9.30am and 4.30pm.

The summit will also include a series of facilitated breakout sessions.

A sign up link is now live for the event.
