Students across the Westmorland and Furness area celebrate exam success following GCSE results day.
Early indications show results in the area have improved for pupils compared to 2024 with more pupils achieving a higher level pass. Compared with outcomes from last year, results in Westmorland and Furness present a slight fall at the lower level pass, as do the results nationally. The fall is expected and due to the national changes aimed at bringing the results back into line with pre-pandemic levels.
Naturally, GCSE results day is marked by contrasting emotions, with some young people celebrating and others not getting the results they were hoping for. Whatever the result, all students should be congratulated for their exceptional efforts as they continue to overcome the disruption to their education from the pandemic.

“Whatever you decide to do next, know that whatever your results there are still plenty of opportunities available to you – including with us here at the council. Each year we announce our apprenticeship opportunities and have numerous jobs available right now with excellent progression opportunities.”

If any student is unhappy with their GCSE grades, they will have the opportunity to sit an exam in the autumn, or, in certain circumstances, to appeal the grade through their school or college.
