Westmorland and Furness Council is delivering greater value for money from its annual £5 million school maintenance programme, by combining similar projects across multiple schools into single contracts.

One Stop on Highgate in Kendal has been ordered to be closed for 3 months, whilst European Mini Market in Market Square Kirkby Stephen has had its 3 month closure extended for a further 3 months, over the sale of illegal tobacco and non-compliant vaping products.

Walkers and outdoor enthusiasts can lace up their boots today as the new Westmorland and Furness Way officially opens. Spanning 120 miles of varied terrain and picturesque landscapes, the brand-new signed walking route establishes a direct link between Alston, England’s highest market town, and Furness Abbey on the heritage-rich Furness Peninsula.
