Furness Education Trust is a multi-academy trust based in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria serving the Furness Community, located near the centre of the historic shipbuilding town, we are close to the southern boundary of the Lake District National Park. Currently comprised of six schools including Furness Academy and five primary schools, the Trust aims to develop best practice by collaborating and working together to give the best of everything to every child.

We are looking for a positive, enthusiastic and inspiring individual to work within Furness Education Trust as a Subject Leader of Design and Technology with responsibilities for DT, Engineering and Construction. The role of Subject Leader is about supporting leadership of this subject area.  This role is about providing a clear sense of direction and purpose for Design and Technology, Engineering, Systems and Construction education at Furness Academy.  The core purpose of the Subject Leader role is to contribute to the professional leadership and management of the Design and Technology and Engineering education strand of STEM, including Construction.  This will secure a relevant curriculum, high quality learning opportunities, effective use of resources and improve standards of achievement for all students.  The teams within STEM will work to ensure that the curriculum offer is carefully managed to support post 16 options, recognising the employment opportunities, apprenticeships, and further study on offer in the area.  A key part of the role, will be to work with and alongside the Subject Leader Design and Technology with responsibilities for Food Technology and Catering, Textiles and Hair and Beauty.

You will:

  • Secure high-quality teaching and learning and lead by own example in the classroom.
  • Understand your accountability for the performance standards of your students.
  • Make a sustained and well-informed contribution to the Technology provision at the Academy as well as whole Academy improvement strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with other schools in our Multi-Academy Trust.
  • Work with the other Subject Leader Design and Technology (responsibilities for Food Technology and Catering, Textiles and Hair and Beauty) and colleagues to develop departmental expertise and to enrich students learning including through trips and visits.
