How to pay for building control. Our fees and guidance on the schedules one to three that make up different building control price bands.
The Building Regulation charges are divided into a Plan and Inspection charge, or Building Notice charge.
If you apply online or by email, you can pay by card over the phone:
Make the payment as soon as you receive confirmation that we have received your application
Alternatively, if you send a paper application, you can pay by cheque made payable to Westmorland and Furness Council. Send the cheque by post with your application form.
The basis of these charges is from the Building (Local Authority Charges) Regulations 2010, valid from 1 April 2022.

The Plan Charge is to be paid at the time plans are deposited with the council. An invoice for the inspection charge will be issued after the first inspection has been carried out.
The charges must be paid at the time this Notice is submitted to the council.
A Building Notice cannot be used for new houses where new roads or streets are to be constructed:

All Charges are subject to VAT at the appropriate rate. The Regularisation Charge however is exempt from VAT.
