Bus fare and bargain ticket information.

£3 bus fare cap

There is maximum £3 single fare on most bus services across Westmorland and Furness.

Bus companies taking part, and the services included are:

Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire

  • all services in Cumbria
  • 555 to Lancaster  
  • 685 to Newcastle via Hexham

Blueworks, Ulverston and Grange over Sands areas

Normal fares apply on all other services.

The scheme does not apply to buses which only run on Schooldays including 41B; 99; 445 and all prefixed “S”. 

It is also not available on the Summer only X8.

Buses in Kendal and Barrow

Within Kendal (service 41-46) most fares are still £2.00 single 

Within Barrow (service 1-5 plus 6 within the town) are no more than £2.30 single, and some short distance fares are £1.80.

Bargain tickets

If you are travelling regularly, a day, weekly or season ticket may offer even better value for money. 

If travelling as part of a group for example £25 a Day for up to 5 travelling together on Stagecoach services in the Central Lake District or £33 for up to 5 travelling together on Stagecoach services across the whole area. 

Paying for a bus

Tickets can be bought on the bus, using cash, contactless card payments (not America Express) or via mobile phone using Google Pay or Apple Pay (subject to normal maximum payments).
