Scaffolding permit
A scaffolding permit allows you to place scaffolding on or over a:
- road
- grass verge
- pavement
- public footpath
A permit can be valid for a maximum of 4 weeks. If you need a permit for less than 4 weeks, state it in your application.
Only registered scaffolding companies can apply for a scaffolding permit.

How much notice to give
Please give a minimum of 7 working days notice.
Other information you need to provide
You also must provide:
- a sketch showing the dimensions of the proposed scaffolding and the width of the road, footway or grass verge
- a site specific assessment, covering appropriate issues listed in a typical risk assessment
- a copy of your public liability insurance documents, showing you have a minimum of £5 million of cover
