Library loans, borrowing limits and renewing items

How long you can borrow an item for, how many you can take out at a time and how to renew a book or item in your online account.

What you can borrow

You can loan an adult or junior book for up to 21 days that are:

  • fiction
  • non fiction
  • talking books
  • story sacks

How many books you can borrow at once

There are differing numbers of items a person can borrow. The number of items you can borrow depends on:

  • the type of item
  • your age

You should contact your local library for borrowing limits.

If you are part of a reading group

Each set of books consists of 12 paperback copies of the title, plus a copy in large print and talking book formats, where these are available.

When you have been registered as a member of a reading group, you will be able to access the online catalogue and search for reading group books.

Renew a book or item

You can renew a book or item up to 6 times. After the sixth renewal, they must be brought into the library for staff to check before they can be renewed again.

You will need to pay the purchase costs of the book, story sack or AV.
