The annual event sees Social Workers around the globe stand together to promote the profession, and the hard work and dedication of social workers at Westmorland and Furness Council is being celebrated.

Social Workers support children, families and adults, making a difference to the wellbeing of children and promoting and supporting the independence and wellbeing of adults.

Children's Social Workers in our Penrith Support and Protect Team shared:

''It's a privilege to be even a small chapter in peoples lives in often the most difficult of times"

"We feel passionately about advocating and standing up for young people and families when they're experiencing hard times"

"We provide help and support to ensure children have the best possible start in life and make sure children and young people are happy and safe with their families".

Daniel, one of our Adult Social Workers at Westmorland and Furness Council, says the profession profoundly impacts people's lives:

“Being a social worker is fantastic. My favourite part of the role is having the ability to make a real impact in people's lives, through some of the interventions that we do on a day-to-day basis.

“Working with people who are going through really difficult challenges in their lives, whether that’s due to physical or mental health issues, to make some really meaningful changes, is really rewarding.”

Cath Whalley, Director of Adult Social Care at Westmorland and Furness Council, said: “World Social Work Day is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our amazing social workers, who make a real difference for people who are not always able to advocate for themselves.

“I thank them for the amazing work they do every day of the year, often in difficult circumstances, making improvements to the quality of people’s lives.”

Mil Vasic, Director of Children’s Services at Westmorland and Furness Council, said:

‘World Social Work Day is a fitting recognition for the vital part Social Workers play in the wellbeing of our community. We are fortunate to have an amazing team of Social Workers at Westmorland and Furness, and we offer them all the support they need to succeed in their challenging role, and we acknowledge the pride and professionalism they give in working with others to make a difference to children, young people and their families.’

Councillor Patricia Bell, Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Care at Westmorland and Furness Council, said: “I would like to thank our social workers for all the work they do to improve the lives of those who need their support. Social work is a crucial role enabling people in our communities to live their best possible lives.”

Councillor Janet Battye, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Education and Skills, said:

“As a long-serving former social worker, I’m delighted to support World Social Worker Day. This is a good opportunity to highlight and applaud the vital role of our social workers in helping to keep people safe and well in their communities, children, young people and their families, vulnerable and older people, and their carers.”
