A conference dedicated to promoting physical and mental wellbeing in children and young people in Cumbria is taking place in Penrith in March.

A new Vaping Taskforce Group has been set up by Westmorland and Furness Council in response to the growing concerns around the increased use of ‘vapes’ amongst young people.

Residents and others affected have been thanked for their patience during an emergency road closure in Stricklandgate in Kendal last night.

Following a successful trial in Barrow in 2023, places on a free, clinically proven intervention to help people quit smoking will be returning to the Westmorland and Furness area. 

An emergency road closure is in place on the A5284 Stricklandgate, Kendal between 7.30pm on 13 February and 3am on 14 February to ensure a demolition of a building is conducted safely and efficiently.

Despite challenging financial times Westmorland and Furness Council has worked hard to achieve a balanced budget for 2024/25 that protects front line services.
