Teacher of Music

Teacher of Music

Hours: full time/part time
Salary: MPS/UPS. A TLR may be available for appropriately qualified candidates

•    Are you a dedicated music teacher who delivers innovative, motivating lessons?
•    Are you committed to driving up standards challenging all students to reach their maximum potential?
•    Would you like to join a vibrant and inclusive music department with an excellent extra-curricular programme?

Then we would welcome an application to join our well-established, award-winning Music Department. This permanent position will start on 1 September 2024; we are happy to consider part-time or job-share applications, depending on your situation.

The successful candidate will be a confident, motivated teacher with an uncompromising commitment to student achievement and the ability to engage learners of all ages and musical competencies. You should have a strong theoretical background in music, ideally having studied the subject for your first degree.

If successful, you will teach across the range of age and ability from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5. We deliver practical music lessons to all Key Stage 3 students and the subject is taught either as a GCSE at Key Stage 4 and an A level at Key Stage 5, or through Performing Arts at these key stages.

The department is well led and well resourced, with a Band Room and separate keyboard teaching room, four practice rooms and a large team of peripatetic tutors who teach a wide range of instruments and vocals.

UCC has a unique, inclusive approach to extra-curricular music making and we are looking for a hands-on teacher who shares our belief that all children and young people can be musicians. Our inclusivity was an important factor in our success at the 2022 Music and Drama Education awards, when we were delighted to be named as Outstanding Music Department of the Year.

All our music teachers play a full role in our extra-curricular provision, either instrumental or vocal – preferably both! Our busy extra-curricular timetable caters for students of all ages and abilities, and includes Street Band, Training Band (for beginners), Big Band and Concert Band for the more experienced.

We also have an exciting history of concert tours and have performed in London, at Disneyland, Paris and at towns in the Rhine valley, in addition to various local community events.
You can find out more about the department from the school website (https://ullswatercc.co.uk/items/music/).

This is a great opportunity for either a newly qualified or an experienced teacher to work in a friendly, dynamic environment and to play a full and active role in the continual development of high-quality music teaching and learning, as well as our impressive extra-curricular offer.
