Teaching Assistant (SEN)

The post is temporary (see below*) for approx. 32.5 hours per week – required for a September 2024 start. 

We are looking for a caring, patient and enthusiastic teaching assistant who can join our dedicated school team. Our ethos puts the child firmly at the centre of everything we do and the decisions we make.

Prior experience of supporting pupils with special educational needs is essential. Equally important to this role is enthusiasm, flexibility and the ability to use own initiative. Primarily, the role will involve supporting children with Educational Health and Care Plans (EHCP) in Reception but at times working in other areas of the school. 

Believing and understanding that every child is unique and having high expectations of all children, is absolutely vital for this role.

The successful person will need to be able to adapt, and prepare teaching resources (under the direction of the class teacher and/or SENCO) to meet the needs of the child and teach the next steps through engaging teaching and learning activities.

The successful candidate will work as part of Early Years team and will be supported by our experienced and dedicated staff. They should be able to show initiative and versatility in responding to pupils’ individual needs in a calm and positive manner. A relevant Level 2 qualification is essential. 

*Post is temporary and the hours and timetables are reviewed termly as the position is EHCP funded. Initially for one year (up to 31st August 2025, due to Budget restrictions) with a possibility to extend.

Senior Teaching Assistant - Behaviour

The main purpose of the role is to support the work of teaching and senior staff to implement agreed work programmes with individuals or small groups, in and out of the classroom. Alston Moor Federation is seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to work with pupils who have additional educational needs based at Alston Primary School. Alston Moor Federation comprises of three schools which serve the communities on Alston Moor, and includes Samuel King’s School, Alston Primary School and Nenthead Primary School.  We are a friendly and supportive workplace. Purpose

•    Communicate effectively with students, parents and other members of staff.
