About this opportunity

We are looking to appoint a Building Assistant, who is a highly motivated individual and has a working knowledge of manual handling, health & safety and hygiene regulations, to join our Facilities Management Team.

 

You will provide portering and janitorial support and general assistance to building users and visitors, including the maintenance of all staff areas (toilets, kitchens, breakout areas, car parks and bin storage areas etc.).

 

As part of this role, you will also support the wider facilities team, working with service users/stakeholders to identify and resolve any potential problems so that work can progress as normal. You will also provide security support to the building, ensuring the premises is opened/closed on time and is at all times secure (training will be provided as necessary).

 

We are looking for someone who is proactive, has experience within a portering, janitorial or caretaking role and who is committed to making continuous improvements within the service.

 

This role will include travel throughout the geographic footprint of Westmorland & Furness Council, experience driving a transit sized van with a tail lift would be an advantage.

About this opportunity

We are looking to recruit 2 full time Social Care Workers to join our Intermediate Care Team in Barrow in Furness, based at Parkview Gardens Residential Care Home.

The service supports residential short term intervention which provides Intermediate Care, Discharge to Assess (D2A) and Respite Beds.

The team identifies the assistance required by the individuals they support, to enable therapy and reablement and to support recovery and independence.

The service will also provide a period of assessment & recovery for people who have been discharged from hospital and will work with the wider health and social care teams so that individuals’ long term care needs can be identified and met.

About the role

As a Social Care Worker, you will undertake strengths-based assessments and deliver appropriate person-centred support and outcomes for individuals who have care and support needs.

You will work under supervision and guidance for designated case work. Where cases become more complex, and in negotiation with the line-manager, case responsibility may transfer to a professionally qualified practitioner. You will be expected to work in ways that promote independence and enable individuals to maximise their strengths.

***Due to the nature if this role there will be a need to respond to service users who will not always be accessible via public transport; therefore there is a requirement to travel independently via a motorised vehicle***

Working within our Residential Care Service will typically involve working shifts which usually cover between 7am until 10pm (days) or 9.30pm - 7.15am (nights) over 7 days 365 day a year - this will include alternate weekends (as part of a set rota) and Bank Holidays.

EYFS/Year 1 Teacher

The children, staff and governors of Selside Endowed CE Primary School wish to appoint a teacher for Class 1 (Nursery, Reception and Year 1) to join our enthusiastic and dedicated staff team, starting September 2024.

About this opportunity

A great opportunity has arisen at Westmorland and Furness Council within our Legal Team for a Lawyer to support on the Council’s commercial work.

To be a success in our Legal Team you will have experience of or knowledge in the following:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating contractual documents including for example contracts for purchase of goods / services, grant agreements;
  • Providing advice to clients on contract and commercial activities, offering solutions;
  • Independently managing a caseload;
  • An ability and willingness to learn and develop knowledge of procurement law;
  • Awareness of, or willingness to learn, local authority governance requirements including ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory standards;
  • Experience of working in local government desirable but not essential.

You will be a strong team player with a proven track record of delivering to deadlines, have effective communication skills and be able to use sound judgement to solve problems. You will be used to working in a busy pressurised environment and will enjoy a challenge.

Other duties will include dealing with a range of matter including providing advice to officers and elected members, attending Council Committees and working groups as required.

You must have good IT literacy skills and an ability to use electronic publications for the purpose of legal work and research are critical.

The post holders will have their own case work, requiring a business approach to case work and client care delivered through Business Partnering. Building strong relationships across the team and with key service areas; working with them to understand their needs in order to plan the resources of Legal and Democratic Services, to meet those needs, and to work closely with those service areas to actively support and promote the development of skills and knowledge in respect of legal and governance issues pertinent to their service.
