About this opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join Westmorland and Furness Council as an Environmental Health Officer within our Public Protection Service, focusing on Environmental Protection.

In this role you will help us to keep our communities safe through undertaking a wide range of regulatory activities including nuisance work, permitting, air quality, contaminated land, private water supplies, rural drainage etc.

You’ll be joining a dedicated and experienced team where you will be managing your own caseload proactive and reactive inspections, complaint investigations and service requests. Being an Environmental Health Officer at Westmorland and Furness Council is both varied and challenging; no two days are the same.

Candidates will have a diploma, BSc, or MSc in Environmental Health, be qualified Environmental Health Practitioners, EHRB registered or equivalent.  Additionally, you will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to negotiate and influence at all levels. You will also be able to work independently and ensure a customer focused approach to service delivery.

As part of this role, there is a requirement for regular travel and so the postholder must be able to drive and have access to a vehicle to use for work/ able to independently travel around the Westmorland and Furness area.

About this opportunity

We are seeking a part-time Cash Collector to join our team, working seven days a week on an annualised hours system, based on a rota. The successful candidate will play a key role in the Thriving Places team and report directly to the Parking Team Leader.

In this role, you will be responsible for collecting cash from pay-and-display machines across the district, ensuring they are well-maintained and stocked with tickets while carrying out minor repairs when necessary. You will also be required to report any machine faults to Parking Services, transfer money from collection vehicles, and assist in the counting and processing of cash, which may involve lifting and carrying bulky containers over short distances. Additionally, you will prepare reports detailing audit ticket readings, investigate discrepancies, and input financial data into spreadsheets.

We are looking for someone with a strong passion for customer service, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and the physical capability to meet the demands of the role. Flexibility with working hours and days is essential.

The ideal candidate will have a good educational background, including a minimum of GCSEs in English and Maths or equivalent experience. You should have prior experience handling cash, a solid understanding of cash collection and banking procedures, and hold a full UK driving license. A confident approach to using IT systems is also required.

About this opportunity

The successful candidate will lead the Directly Employed Technical Team (DETT) which is responsible for carrying out general reactive and planned maintenance services whilst maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction within Westmorland & Furness Council’s property portfolio. The skilled team leader will be expected to lead and deliver the highest of service standards within targets, maintain Health & Safety excellence and drive to improve service whilst sustaining a safe environment and excellent customer experience.

We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Team Leader who is able to:

Manage and lead the Maintenance Team (DETT) to drive performance and quality standards throughout, whilst managing client requirements and ensuring the service is delivered in a planned and coordinated manner. Plan, visit, and approve worksites, providing regular updates on progress and risks to senior management.

To prioritise, delegate, manage and inspect maintenance and repair tasks on a variety of faulty, damaged, worn, or fatigued materials and components, addressing parts of a structure as needed. This includes the management of partial repairs or complete replacements, as well as responsive and emergency work which is to all managed via Concerto (Councils Property Asset Management CAFM Software). General maintenance and repair works are considered to fall within: masonry work; joinery repairs; general plumbing works, plastering, tiling and decorations and groundworks.

To be responsible for all health and safety management, including the implementation of safe systems of works and ensuring that the team carry out dynamic risk assessments to ensure that all works can be safely executed. To comply with the councils Health and Safety Policy and Procedures including Safe Systems of Work, Risk Assessments, Manual Handling, Fire Warden Duties and Active Monitoring and Code of Safe Working Practice.
