About this opportunity
Are you looking for an operational management role that is rewarding and really making a difference for our children, young people, and vulnerable adults? We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and highly motivated supervisor to be responsible for the front-line operations for Childrens Transport Operations Team (CTOT), Westmorland and Furness Council’s in-house operator of home to school and adult social care transport from our Barrow sites.
The successful candidate will be managing a team of D1 minibus drivers and passenger assistants. Ideally, the successful candidate will hold a full vocational Category D Licence or be willing to work towards obtaining this licence as an immediate priority on starting the role. They will also be willing to undertake training for the Transport Manager CPC.
You should have proven experienced in managing people, preferably in the sector, be self-motivated, an independent thinker, confident in your own decision making and able to work flexibly around an operational day. As well as the supervision of your direct reportees and ensuring compliance of all operational aspects you will also work closely with other area supervisors in Westmorland & Furness Council to ensure continuity of service delivery and to develop and grow the service area.
There is a requirement to be on an out of hours rota with the other CTOT Area Supervisors, 1 weekend in 3 to ensure routes are covered where there is staff absence, and you may, on occasion, be required to act as resilience and cover routes yourself either as a driver or passenger assistant.
The postholder will report directly to the Business Partner CTOT Operations, who is also the named Transport Manager on the PSV O License and also be able to support the operational and logistical work of the wider Integrated Home to School Transport Service.
A knowledge of the geography of Westmorland and Furness is advantageous.
Candidates who are successful through the interview process will also be required to take a minibus/coach driving assessment to be held on the same day of interview.

DBS
This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 and requires an enhanced DBS check with a Children’s and Adults Barred List check.
Please note this role involves working in regulated activity with adults and children. It is an offence for people who are barred from working in regulated activity to apply for roles that require them to work unsupervised with adults and children.
