About this opportunity

The Public Health team in Westmorland and Furness Council are recruiting a full-time, permanent Public Health Manager for Epidemiology. This new opportunity, managed by a Public Health Consultant, will provide strategic leadership for Epidemiology for the Public Health team and across the wider Council. The post-holder will be a part of the Senior Management Team for Public Health and will have a close working relationship with the business intelligence teams within the Council and the wider health and care system.

If successful, you will lead the development of a data and intelligence function for Public Health and the wider Council to support Health in all Policies. You will provide leadership and professional advice on epidemiology, medical statistics and needs assessments. You will support the Council in being ambitious and outcome-focused, particularly with respect to reducing inequalities in the wider determinants of health.

We are looking for someone with substantial experience of using health and social data and intelligence to build narratives that influence senior leaders in council, health or related organisations in the wider system. Knowledge and experience across epidemiology and statistics and the interpretation of complex data is essential, as is knowledge of the public health system. Excellent data visualisation, communication and negotiating skills will be important to enable data insights to influence policy development and service delivery.

The Public Health team is responsible for supporting the health and wellbeing of the local community through the provision of services and by working in partnership to ensure health is considered in all polices. You will be part of the values-led, supportive and collaborative Westmorland and Furness Public Health team. This post can be fully remote, or hybrid with office bases in Barrow-in-Furness, Kendal and Penrith.

About this opportunity

This is a key post within the Council’s Asset Team, the team is directly responsible for the delivery of the Council’s Estates Management, Building Compliance, and management of the Corporate Landlord function. Supporting a diverse range of front-line services and back-office functions including Children’s Services, Adult Services, Highways, and Corporate Buildings

The role of Programme Assistant is varied, and the right candidate must possess strong attention to detail to achieve thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing tasks.

You will assist the Corporate Landlord Manger with the smooth operation and management of the Corporate Landlord function within the Property department. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing and using financial information derived from the Property Database (Concerto) and the County Council’s corporate financial system (e5) to ensure that expenditure and income is accurate and allocated correctly; it is essential that candidates have the experience and technical ability of using and understanding ICT systems.

We are looking for someone who will be flexible in their approach, with the ability to plan and prioritise their own workload, working independently or as part of the team. Ideally they should be tactful, diplomatic, and assertive when dealing with challenging situations.
